ABSTRACT
The long-term stressful utilization of forests and grasslands has led to ecosystem degradation C loss. Since the late 1970s China launched six key national ecological restoration projects protect its environment restore degraded ecosystems. Here, we conducted a large-scale field investigation literature survey biomass soil in China's forest, shrubland, grassland ecosystems across regions where were implemented (∼16% country's land area). We investigated changes stocks these evaluate contributions sink between 2001 2010. Over this decade, estimated that total annual project region was 132 Tg per y (1 = 1012 g), over half which (74 y, 56%) attributed implementation projects. Our results demonstrate have substantially contributed CO2 mitigation China.
