ABSTRACT
Significance Accurate chromosome segregation at mitosis and meiosis is crucial to prevent genome instability, birth defect, cancer. Accordingly, separase, the protease that triggers distribution, tightly regulated by a direct inhibitor, securin. However, securin has not been identified, neither functionnally nor sequence similarity, in other clades fungi animals. This raised doubts about conservation of this mechanism branches eukaryotes. Here, we identify characterize plants. Despite extreme divergence, kept same core function likely universal regulator cell division
