ABSTRACT
Cell proliferation and terminal differentiation are mutually exclusive in most cell lineages. The b-zip transcription factor CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein α (C/EBPα) induces arrest many types, suggesting that both activities linked. Here we show C/EBPα-mediated pathways can be separated by the E7 oncoprotein of “high-risk” human papilloma virus 16. overrides cycle withdrawal without compromising transactivation activity C/EBPα or its ability to participate differentiation. Uncoupling depends on casein kinase II site but not neutralize pocket proteins cyclin-dependent inhibitor p21. Our results suggest a bifurcation pathways.
