ABSTRACT
Reg (regeneratinggene) was isolated as a gene specifically expressed in regenerating islets (Terazono, K., Yamamoto, H., Takasawa, S., Shiga, Yonemura, Y., Tochino, and Okamoto, H. (1988) J. Biol. Chem. 263, 2111–2114). Rat human products, Reg/REG proteins, have been demonstrated to stimulate islet β-cell growth in vitro vivo ameliorate experimental diabetes. In the present study, we cDNA for Reg protein receptor from rat library. The encoded cell surface 919-amino acid protein, cells into which had introduced bound with high affinity. When RINm5F cells, pancreatic line that shows Reg-dependent growth, transformants exhibited significant increases incorporation of 5′-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine well numbers response protein. A homology search revealed is homologue multiple exostoses-like gene, function has hitherto unknown. These results strongly suggest by mediates signal regeneration.
