ABSTRACT
The nuclei of most vertebrate cells contain members the high mobility group N (HMGN) protein family, which bind specifically to nucleosome core particles and affect chromatin structure function, including transcription. Here, we study biological role this family by systematic analysis phenotypes tissue transcription profiles in mice lacking functional HMGN variants. Phenotypic Hmgn1(tm1/tm1), Hmgn3(tm1/tm1), Hmgn5(tm1/tm1) their wild type littermates with a battery standardized tests uncovered variant-specific abnormalities. Gene expression four different tissues each Hmgn(tm1/tm1) lines reveals very little overlap between genes affected specific variants tissues. Pathway that loss an variant subtly affects numerous processes. We conclude within framework entire organism, HMGNs modulate fidelity cellular transcriptional profile tissue- manner.
