Medical education in Italy: Challenges and opportunities

ABSTRACT
Italy is a country of 60 million citizens with high life expectancy, an increasing prevalence chronic multi-morbidity and public healthcare system. There are 61 medical schools more than one thousand postgraduate programs for 50 different specialisations. In this article, we describe the Italian educational system its most recent evolution towards process internationalization, alongside pedagogical cultural changes. The main challenges in students' selection, which still only based on assessment basic knowledge, reform post-graduate education, lacks official, formal definition learning outcomes aligned methods assessment. opportunities come from awareness importance faculty development programs. pandemic itself acted as catalyst innovation, pushing toward student-centered teaching-learning activities. Finally, increase international collaborations education research could be effective to foster country.
