ABSTRACT
Patient acceptance of pediatric formulations is critical to compliance and consequently therapeutic outcomes; thus, having an in vitro method evaluate sensory perception pharmaceutical products would be beneficial. The objective this research develop a sensitive reproducible tribological characterize suspensions at low force sliding speeds. The discriminating potential the was examined using tribology profiles (coefficient friction (COF) vs. speed) for commercially available made study with widely varying sweetness, thickness, grittiness; these were used judge sensitivity method. Samples measured 3M Transpore™ surgical tape simulate tongue surface, steel half ring geometry, constant gap setting, target axial 2 N 600 s exponential ramp rotation speed. The COF ranged from 0.1 0.6. For speeds studied, high viscosity commercial suspension ibuprofen drops acetaminophen show classic Stribeck curve increasing higher speeds, which indicates entered hydrodynamic lubrication phase, while lower only reached mixed phase. The contribution particles affects dynamic tribologic pattern compared that are categorized as either gritty or viscosity. These results important they provide potentially rapid screening medications help identify factors affect palatability formulations.
