ABSTRACT
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain leading causes of death worldwide. While platelet-mediated thrombus formation following the rupture an atherosclerotic plaque is one key pathophysiologic events in CVDs, role platelets previous or more advanced stages atherosclerosis less known. Interestingly, presence has been observed at core plaque. In order to study conditions necessary for migrate toward lesion, we designed vitro co-culture model. Platelets were co-cultured with monocytes Transwell inserts covered a confluent endothelium and number migrating and/or was determined under different conditions. also exposed media conditioned obtained from co-cultures prior migration assays. Here show that coculturing increased platelet transmigration, considerable transmigrated found not associated monocytes. platelet-monocyte transmigration aggregation, suggesting existence soluble factors secreted by enhance migratory pro-aggregating capabilities platelets. We conclude have machinery through activated endothelium, response requires interaction produce context atherogenic
