Martinez Pillet, V. Lites, B. W. A systematic structuring magnetic fields over scales much smaller than mean free path photospheric photons may be responsible for observed asymmetrical Stokes profiles. We explore this possibility by deriving radiative transfer equation microstructured atmospheres (the MISMA approximation). This is subsequently employed to show that very schematic scenarios penumbrae sunspots, plage network regions, internetwork regions produce profiles have asymmetries. The details these model are secondary importance, but ease generating type asymmetries with MISMAs significant, so existence deserves serious consideration. Should such microstructures exist, techniques currently infer properties solar photosphere need revised. also concern physics itself. These two topics briefly discussed.
