ABSTRACT
In the contemporary world, "race" narratives are so multifaceted that at times, different views of concept appear mutually incompatible. recent decades biologists, especially geneticists, have repeatedly stated notion race does not apply to human species. On other hand, social scientists claim is highly significant in cultural, historical, and socioeconomic terms because it molds everyday relations a powerful motivator for political movements based on differences. this paper we present results an interdisciplinary research project incorporating approaches from genetics anthropology. Our objective explore interface between information about biology/genetics perceptions color/ Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We argue data interpretation our resonate far beyond local level, stimulating discussion methodological, theoretical, issues wider national international relevance. Topics addressed include complex terminology color/race classification Brazil, ancestry context ideologies Brazilian identity, relationship genetic population sociopolitical agenda turns questions racism.
