ABSTRACT
Abstract In this paper, we investigated the possibility of using defect modes (DMs) in second photonic bandgap (PBG) defective one dimensional (1D) crystals (PCs) for creating optical sensors. The dependencies relative sensitivities on layer (DL) thickness first and PBGs at optimized PC parameters are obtained compared advantage PBG over all ranges DL is shown. However, as order mode (DM) contrast structure increase, becomes less prominent. behavior DMs their sensitivity outside when changes considered. dependences different DM also compared. This work mainly theoretical aims finding general patterns that can be generalized to any specific examples 1D with practical realizable
