ABSTRACT
Background: Patients with esophageal squamous cell cancer (ESCC) have a high frequency to coincide head and neck (HNC). This study aims analyze the treatment results prognosis of patients synchronous ESCC HNC. Methods: From January 2016 December 2019, 5 underwent concurrent surgical resection HNC in our institution. We retrospectively reviewed outcomes these (HNEC group) compared those 20 who esophagectomy three regional lymph node dissections for during same period (EC group). Results: The locations HNCs were pharynx/tongue (4/1) clinical stages Stage IV all patients. Meanwhile, ESCCs Stages 0/I/II/III (1/1/2/1). All thoracoscopic esophagectomy. procedures concurrently performed pharyngolaryngectomy free jejunum transfer 3 patients, wide tongue mandibular segment reconstruction 1 patient, transection radial forearm flap patient. There was no significant difference postoperative complication between two groups. HNEC group had significantly shorter recurrence-free survival than EC (P = .046). Conclusion: Head surgery can be safely local control. risk recurrence is higher HNC; therefore, it important move on adjuvant therapy without delay.
