ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to investigate the national prevalence thyroid dysfunction in Spain and its association with various clinical, environmental, demographic variables. The included 4554 subjects (42.4% men) a mean age 50 years (range 18-93 years), who were participants national, cross-sectional, population-based survey conducted 2009-2010. Data gathered clinical characteristics, physical examination, blood sampling. Thyrotropin, free thyroxine, triiodothyronine, peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) concentrations analyzed by electrochemiluminescence. Urinary iodine (UI) levels measured an isolated urine sample. The treated hypothyroidism, untreated subclinical hypothyroidism 4.2% [confidence interval (CI) 3.6-4.9%], 4.6% [CI 4.0-5.2%], 0.3% 0.1-0.5%], respectively. total (including all fractions) 9.1% 8.2-10.0%]. hyperthyroidism 0.8% 0.6-1.1]. A 7.5% 6.7-8.3%] population tested positive for TPOAbs (≥50 IU/mL). In multivariate logistic regression models, strongly associated both (p < 0.001) = 0.005), whereas high UI (>200 μg/g creatinine) 0.001). between remained 0.05) it especially significant non-autoimmune (TPOAbs negative) forms At ≥200 μg/g, there correlation thyrotropin (β 0.152, p negative triiodothyronine -0.134, 0.001).According data, large proportion (10%) Spanish has some evidence dysfunction. High TPOAb hypo- hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism.
