ABSTRACT
A specific messenger ribonucleoprotein (RNP) particle, Balbiani ring (BR) granules in the dipteran Chironomus tentans, can be visualized during passage through nuclear pore complex (NPC). We have now examined transport basket preceding actual translocation NPC. The consists of eight fibrils anchored to NPC core by nucleoprotein Nup153. On injection anti-Nup153, BR is blocked. Many are retained on top basket, whereas no seen transit Interestingly, effect Nup153 seems distant from antibody-binding site at base basket. conclude that entry into a two-step process: an mRMP first binds tip and only then it transferred Nup153-dependent process. It indicated ribosomal subunits follow similar pathway.
