ABSTRACT
Autophagosome-lysosome fusion is required to clear cellular waste and maintain neuronal homeostasis. Computational modeling and microscopy elucidate the dynamics of autophagosome-lysosome interaction in axons. Each autophagosome fuses with only a few lysosomes, and autophagosomal maturation is limited by slow kinetics of inner membrane breakdown.
