ABSTRACT
Fully automated text mining (TM) systems promote efficient literature searching, retrieval, and review but are not sufficient to produce ready-to-consume curated documents. These meant replace biocurators, instead assist them in one or more curation steps. To do so, the user interface is an important aspect that needs be considered for tool adoption. The BioCreative Interactive task (IAT) a track designed exploring user-system interactions, promoting development of useful TM tools, providing communication channel between biocuration communities. In V, IAT followed format similar previous interactive tracks, where utility usability as well generation use cases, have been focal points. proposed tasks user-centric formally evaluated by biocurators. V IAT, seven 43 biocurators participated. Two levels participation were offered broaden curator involvement obtain feedback on aspects. full level involved training system, set documents with without assistance, tracking time-on-task, completion survey. partial was focus aspects performance per se. this case, navigated system performing pre-designed then asked whether they able achieve difficulty completing task. manuscript, we describe task, from planning execution discuss major findings tested.
