ABSTRACT
To provide comprehensive information on the access and use of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED) catheter ablation procedures in Africa. The Pan-African Society Cardiology (PASCAR) collected data invasive management arrhythmias from 2011 to 2016 31 African countries. A specific template was completed by physicians, additional obtained industry. Information health care systems, demographics, economics, procedure rates, training programs collected. Considerable heterogeneity arrhythmia observed across Africa. Eight countries surveyed (26%) did not perform pacemaker implantations. The median implantation rate 2.66 per million population country (range: 0.14-233 population). Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator resynchronization therapy were performed 12/31 (39%) 15/31 (48%) respectively, mostly visiting teams. Electrophysiological studies, including complex ablations all Maghreb, but only one sub-Saharan (South Africa). Marked variation cost (up 1000-fold) with an inverse correlation between implant rates fees standardized gross domestic product capita. Lack economic resources facilities, high procedures, deficiency trained non-existent fellowship main drivers under-utilization interventional care. There is limited CIED quarter have services, available
