ABSTRACT
A provenance experiment of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) was established in Croatia 1998 as part an international network trials. Of the 36 provenances present trial, six were selected for presentation a new method assessing their adaptability: easternmost (Ukraine UK-59), westernmost (France F-5), northernmost (Sweden S-23), two southernmost (Croatia, CR-3 and CR-18) one central (Czech Republic CZ-51). The selection made by choosing minimal number most distant from area natural distribution range beech. Flushing indicator physiological character monitored seven phenophases, which recorded on dates during years 2000 2001. differences entering phenophase 3 (indicating very beginning flushing when plant is sensitive to frost) analysed using product limit estimator. may be classified into three different groups: early (CR-3, CZ-51), intermediate (CR-18, UK-59) late (F-5, S-23). then ranked with Analytical Hierarchy Process order select adaptable following criteria: survival, date mean height.
