ABSTRACT
Abstract The Tufted1 (Tft1) dominant mutation promotes the generation of ectopic bristles (macrochaetae) in dorsal mesothorax Drosophila. Here we show that Tft1 corresponds to a gain-of-function allele proneural gene amos is associated with chromosomal aberration at 36F-37A. This causes expression large domains lateral-dorsal embryonic ectoderm, which results supernumerary neurons PNS, and notum region third instar imaginal wing, gives rise mesothoracic extra bristles. Revertants Tft1, lack bristles, do not amos. One revertant loss-of-function has recessive phenotype PNS. Our suggest both normal are generated following similar rules, subjected Notch-mediated lateral inhibition. ability appear close together may be due having stronger capacity than other genes like asense scute. might related wild-type function promoting development clusters closely spaced olfactory sensilla.
