ABSTRACT
The study investigates the association between tobacco and alcohol use, potential risk of impoverishment from borrowing distress selling assets for meeting costs hospitalization in India. Data fifty-second round National Sample Survey, a representative survey 120,942 households across India, were used to investigate likelihood levels cover expenditures among regular users and/or alcohol, non-users where there was with no use. data analyzed by bivariate comparisons multivariate logistic ordinary least square regression. found higher borrowing/distress during individuals who use (OR 1.35, p<0.05), but belong that 1.38, both 1.51, even after controlling socio-economic demographic factors. same groups also met percentage through assets. adjusted population-attributable proportion meet hospital 16%. suggests is an due hospitalization. While reduction poverty overarching goal developing countries multilateral development organizations, very little mentioned about control framework development. It might be necessary include strategies larger reduction.
