Cooperative planning in childcare centers to improve physical activity: a qualitative investigation of directors’ perspectives

ABSTRACT
Interventions to promote physical activity (PA) in childcare centers have been shown increase children's PA levels; moreover, a growing number of evidence-based best practice guidelines exist for this setting. However, there is lack knowledge on the facilitators and barriers successful implementation interventions. We used Cooperative Planning improve capabilities centers. This qualitative study aimed explore center directors' views process identify its implementation. conducted guided semi-structured interviews with directors nine after completion 12-month process. The were recorded, transcribed analyzed using content analysis inductive category development. Facilitators systematized according Consolidated Framework Implementation Research (CFIR). was regarded as being helpful structuring involving all team members. Several within CFIR domains inner setting (structural characteristics, networks communications, climate), outer (support from parents provider), characteristics individuals (intrinsic motivation staff) (individual drivers) identified. reported included structural (e.g. time), communications conflicts) willingness accept change). contextual interpersonal factors seem influence extent which can be implemented by center's team.
