ABSTRACT
Does the prevalence of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes vary in women diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) according to different definitions? A comparison criteria revealed that there is a substantial risk for perinatal complications PCOS women, regardless used definition. Pregnant are susceptible complications. At present, three main definitions PCOS. So far, we aware only one study, which found elevated varied widely depending on phenotypes features but considered relatively small sample size some phenotypes. Retrospective matched cohort study. Data primiparous ESHRE/ASRM 2003 healthy controls giving birth neonates ≥500 g were included. total 885 analysed: out 177 PCOS, 85 (48.0%) met National Institutes Health (NIH) 1990 criteria, another 14 (7.9%) featured additional defined by The Androgen Excess Society (AE-PCOS) 2006 78 (44.1%) classified as exclusively definition, 708 represented control group. (49.4 versus 64.3 60.3%, P = 0.313) (27.1 35.7 23.1%, 0.615) did not differ within groups (ESHRE/ASRM, NIH, AE-PCOS, respectively). Compared controls, was increased patients [odds ratio (OR) 2.57; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.82–3.64; < 0.001] while no difference (OR 0.83; CI 0.56–1.21; 0.343). limitation our study its retrospective design size, particularly AE-PCOS subgroup. Since have, high they should be informed advised follow regular checks units where problems can detected early allow specialized care.
