ABSTRACT
A substantial number of hospitalized patients with terminal cancer at the end-of-life phase receive antibiotics, even imminent death. We evaluated impact palliative care consultation on antibiotic use in during phase. We identified adult metastatic solid who died a tertiary medical centre Seoul, Republic Korea, following least 4 days hospitalization (January 2018-December 2020). Patients were divided into and non-palliative groups. Propensity score-weighted, multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to compare proportion receiving antibiotics within 3 before death between two groups.Among 1143 analysed, 940 (82.2%) received The significantly lower (propensity score-weighted P < 0.001) group (344/468; 73.5%) than (596/675; 88.3%). decrease significant for carbapenem (42.4% versus 22.4%; 0.001), glycopeptide (23.3% 11.1%; quinolone (30.5% 19.4%; = 0.012). In analysis, (adjusted OR 0.46, 95% CI 0.33-0.65; independently associated reduced phase.Palliative may reduce aggressive phase.
