Small bowel perforation caused by a fish bone in a patient with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome: a case report

ABSTRACT
Management of gastrointestinal perforation in patients with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS) is clinically challenging. A male his 40s vEDS presented right lower abdominal pain. Computed tomography revealed a foreign body the ileum bowel perforation. detailed inquiry that he had consumed codfish six days prior. Based on these findings, was diagnosed small caused by fish bone. Emergency laparotomy performed and intraoperative findings showed bone penetrating mesentery. We resected ~5 cm intestine, including site. Although patient experienced postoperative paralytic ileus, discharged Day 27. Gastrointestinal bones extremely rare requires careful assessment to determine appropriate treatment. For surgeons, an individualized surgical strategy optimal perioperative management are important prevent fatal complications.
