ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT We study the nature of faint radio source population detected in MeerKAT International GHz Tiered Extragalactic Exploration (MIGHTEE) Early Science data COSMOS field, focusing on properties radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Using extensive multiwavelength available we are able to classify 88 per cent 5223 sources field with host galaxy identifications as AGNs (35 cent) or star-forming galaxies (54 cent). select a sample redshifts out z ∼ 6 and luminosities 1020 < L1.4 GHz/W Hz−1 1027 them high-excitation low-excitation (HERGs LERGs). The classification catalogue is released this work. find no significant difference HERGs LERGs our sample. In contrast previous work, that have very similar Eddington-scaled accretion rates; particular identify slowly accreting formally classified at these low luminosities, where separating into possibly becomes redundant. investigate how black hole mass affects jet power, ≳ 107.8 M⊙ required power mechanical greater than radiative luminosity AGN (Lmech/Lbol > 1). discuss both high spin may be necessary launch sustain dominant jet.
