ABSTRACT
Abstract This investigation is aimed to study the feasibility of size-specific dose estimate (SSDE) patient dosimetry in pediatric head CT scans and establish typical values a hospital Tunja, Colombia. The volumetric computed tomography index (CTDIvol) dose-length product 468 patients from newborn 15-year-olds, who underwent non-contrast scans, were collected retrospectively. For 186 cases only, SSDE was estimated using attenuated-based size metrics CTDIvol,16-to-SSDE conversion factors reported AAPM report 293. Results showed that an accurate metric can be used scans. Median 33.5, 31.6, 36.2 57.9 mGy established as for 0–<3 months, 3 months–<1 y, 1–<6 y ≥6 respectively, further assist optimization process at hospital. Further studies with more robust data hospitals should conducted local national reference levels
