ABSTRACT
Abstract Hazard and risk assessment of complex petroleum-derived substances has been in a state continuous improvement since the 1970s, with development approaches that continue to be applied refined. Alternative feeds are defined here as those coming into refinery or chemical plant not hydrocarbons from oil gas extraction such biologically derived oils, pyrolysis biomass other, recycled materials. These increasingly being used for production liquid hydrocarbon streams, hence, there is need assess these alternatives, subsequent manufacturing refining processes end products potential humans environment. Here we propose tiered, problem formulation-driven framework assessing safety streams alternative feedstocks use. The scope this work only focused on petrochemical assessment, though principles may applicable other chemistries. integrates combinations analytical chemistry, silico vitro tools, targeted testing together conservative assumptions/approaches leverage existing health, environmental, exposure data, where applicable. enables identification scenarios de novo hazard and/or assessments needed incorporates tiered do so. It can enable decisions efficiently transparently encompass wide range compositional space both finished products, objective ensuring
