ABSTRACT
Human milk glycans play an important role in protecting infants from bacterial infections by providing antimicrobial molecules and promoting development of beneficial microbiota. We have shown that hyaluronan human (milk HA), a glycan polymer, induces the expression beta defensin 2 (HBD2), peptide vitro mouse orthologue vivo, through Toll‐like receptor 4 (TLR4) CD44 dependent manner . Importantly, HA reduces Salmonella infection intestinal epithelial cells hypothesized addition to HBD2, additional are regulated HA. Our data suggest Galectins 8 (Gal4 8) Gal4 mediate killing blood group B expressing pathogenic E.coli Gal8 plays killing. result shows cells, increases LGALS mRNA levels ~4‐fold. Immunofluorescence histochemistry tissue demonstrated after treatment mice, Gal proteins upregulated around luminal epithelium vivo In conclusion, enhances galectins is potential mechanism protection infection.
