ABSTRACT
Recruitment of human CD34+ progenitor cells toward vascular lesions and differentiation into has been regarded as a critical initial step in atherosclerosis. Previously we found that adherent platelets represent potential mediators cell homing besides their role thrombus formation. On the other hand, foam formation represents key process atherosclerotic plaque To investigate whether are involved recruitment endothelial cells, examined interactions cells. Cocultivation experiments showed recruit via specific adhesion receptors P-selectin/PSGL-1 beta1- beta2-integrins. Furthermore, were to induce mature Platelet-induced generation could be prevented partially by HMG coenzyme A reductase inhibitors reduction matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) secretion. Finally, agonists peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha -gamma attenuated platelet-induced production MMP-9. The present study describes potentially important mechanism endothelium atherogenesis atheroprogression. understanding modulation these mechanisms may offer new treatment strategies for patients at high risk diseases.
