ABSTRACT
Advanced glycation end-products (AGE) may cause vascular stiffening by forming crosslinks through the collagen molecule or interaction with their cellular transductional receptor (RAGE). A secreted isoform of RAGE, termed soluble RAGE (sRAGE), contribute to removal/detoxification AGE acting as a decoy. Here we studied plasma sRAGE levels in hypertensive and normotensive human subjects. We also investigated relationship between blood pressure parameters concentrations.A cross-sectional case-control study. The outpatient clinic university teaching hospital. Participants were 147 never-treated patients essential hypertension (87 men 60 women, aged 50 +/- 10 years) 177 controls (118 59 49 years).Plasma determined enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, systolic (SBP), diastolic pressure, pulse (PP) mean arterial pressure. The concentration [median (interquartile range)] was 1206 (879-1658) pg/ml subjects 1359 (999-2198) (P = 0.002). Simple correlation analysis revealed that log-transformed inversely correlated SBP (r -0.11; P < 0.001) PP -0.23; 0.001). Forward-selection multiple regression more strongly (F 3.127, 0.001).Plasma are decreased related PP. Our results raise possibility play role its complications.
