ABSTRACT
Background: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is associated with the development of gastritis and peptic ulcer presumed to be a risk factor for low-grade B-cell lymphoma gastric cancer. H. also causes critical alterations in mucin structure. Our aim was determine effect on MUC1, MUC2, MUC5AC expression. Methods: Thirty pylori–positive 15 pylori–negative antral endoscopic biopsy specimens were evaluated expression immunohistochemical staining. From same specimens, we scrutinized presence by hematoxylin eosin Results: In infected patients, found localized cells superficial epithelium upper parts glands. The number MUC5AC-expressing staining intensity shown decrease patients infection. Histopathology immunostaining patterns mucins implied that physically extracellular MUC5AC-producing cells. does not significantly affect MUC1 MUC2 expressions. dysplastic tissues or intestinal metaplasia areas. expressed areas, but metaplasia. both Conclusion: decreases amount With reducing mucin, may potentially cause significant structure function mucins. pylori–dependent inhibition synthesis deserves more investigations clarify role interaction.
