ABSTRACT
Retrospective review.To report the results of vertebral body stapling (VBS) with minimum 2-year follow-up in patients idiopathic scoliosis.While bracing for scoliosis is moderately successful, its efficacy has been called into question, and it carries associated psychosocial ramifications. VBS shown to be a safe, feasible alternative scoliosis.We retrospectively reviewed 28 29 (96%) treated followed 2 years.Risser sign 0 or 1 coronal curve measuring between 20 degrees 45 .There were 26 thoracic 15 lumbar curves. Average was 3.2 years. The procedure considered success if curves corrected within 10 preoperative measurement decreased >10 . Thoracic <35 had rate 77.7%. Curves which reached < =20 on first erect radiograph 85.7%. Flexible >50% correction bend film 71.4%. Of curves, 4 (15%) showed degrees. Kyphosis improved 7 hypokyphosis (<10 kyphosis T5-T12). patients, 83.5% remaining normal 40 Lumbar demonstrated 86.7%. Four (27%) Major complications include rupture unrecognized congenital diaphragmatic hernia overcorrection patient. Two minor included superior mesenteric artery syndrome atelectasis due mucous plug. There no instances staple dislodgement neurovascular injury.Analysis (IS) high-risk progression shows 87% all 79% >35 not successful require treatments.
