ABSTRACT
Retrospective study. To evaluate clinical outcomes of dual growing rod (GR) technique in treating children with congenital scoliosis (CS).Published reports on the GR results early-onset demonstrate it to be safe and effective. However, use spinal deformities is controversial, there have been no complications for CS large series patients.During 2004 2009, a total 30 patients underwent procedures. Of 159 procedures conducted within treatment period, 125 were lengthenings an average 4.2 per patient. Five severe rigid deformity or kyphosis had osteotomy at apex vertebra short segmental fusion. The analysis included age initial surgery final fusion (if applicable), number frequency lengthenings, complications. Radiographical evaluation was conducted. The mean improved from 72.3° 34.9° after 35.2° last follow-up T1-S1 length increased 25.42 29.03 cm 33.32 increase 1.49 year. space available lung ratio thoracic curves 0.84 0.96 latest follow-up. Three reached Complications occurred 7 patients, they 13 complications. The effective selected cases long, complex CS. It maintains correction achieved while allowing growth continue. And has acceptable rate could help improve decrease implant failures, little influence spine.
