ABSTRACT
Probiotics have been proposed for a number of urogenital infectious conditions. In this study, we examine possible effect on human papillomavirus (HPV)-related precancerous lesions in cervical cytology. We conducted prospective controlled pilot which 54 women with an HPV+low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion diagnosis their PAP smear were followed 6 months. The intervention group consumed daily probiotic drink during the study period; control received no treatment, according to common care policy. Outcome measures and HPV status after Probiotic users had twice as high chance clearance cytological abnormalities (60 vs. 31%, P=0.05). was cleared 19% patients versus 29% (P=0.41). This exploratory suggests that studied promotes HPV-related abnormalities. If confirmed, would represent entirely new option manage cancer precursors.
