ABSTRACT
Background: Coadministration of any statin with ezetimibe is as effective using high doses the same in reduction low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c). There may be other effects called pleiotropics. Objective: To compare effectiveness 2 different treatments that obtain equivalent LDL-c reductions (80 mg simvastatin, once a day and coadministration 10 simvastatin ezetimibe, day) over endothelial function inflammation. Methods: Twenty-three randomized patients hypercholesterolemia × crossover protocol were studied. Endothelial was analyzed by ultrasound assessment dependent flow-mediated vasodilation brachial artery, inflammation estimated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP). Results: similar between simvastatin/ezetimibe (P < 0.001); no difference found = 0.968). Both improved significantly [3.61% 0.003) 5.08% 0.001)]; 0.291). hs-CRP had 23% 0.004) 30% alone 0.01), significant 0.380). Conclusion: The forms treatment presented pleiotropic effects: improvement decrease levels.
