ABSTRACT
Objectives To assess the influence of individual methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T and methionine synthase A2756G polymorphisms on change serum folate concentration in response to different dosages durations folic acid (FA) supplementation hypertensive Chinese adults. Methods A total 480 patients with mild or moderate essential hypertension were randomly assigned three treatment groups: (a) enalapril only (10 mg, control group); (b) FA tablet [10 : 0.4 mg combined FA), low-FA group]; (c) 0.8 high-FA group), once daily for 8 weeks. Individual levels measured at baseline, 4 weeks posttreatment. Results After treatment, increases seen across all genotypes dosage groups. However, compared 677CC genotype, those CT TT genotype group still had significantly lower concentrations, particularly women. In group, showed an attenuated CC (median ratio week that baseline: CC,1.953 vs. CT,1.755 TT,1.637, P<0.01 both). Such was not observed group. Yet, did appear reach a plateau after MTHFR 677 2756 AG/GG genotype. Conclusion We demonstrated can affect baseline post-FA but also therapeutic responses various supplementation.
