ABSTRACT
In the outpatient setting, ambulatory electrocardiography is most frequently used diagnostic modality for evaluation of patients in whom cardiac arrhythmias or conduction abnormalities are suspected. Proper selection device type and monitoring duration critical optimizing yield cost-effective resource utilization. However, despite guidance from major professional societies, lack systematic proper test many institutions results need repeat testing, which leads to not only increased utilization cost care, but also suboptimal patient care. To address this unmet at our own institution, we formed a multidisciplinary panel develop concise, yet comprehensive algorithm, incorporating common indications electrocardiography, efficiently guide clinicians appropriate option given clinical scenario, with goal maximizing The algorithm was designed as single-page, color-coded flowchart be utilized both rapid reference printed form, decision support tool embedded within electronic medical records system point order entry. We believe that adoption will optimize efficiency, utilization, importantly, care satisfaction.
