ABSTRACT
In Brief Purpose: To investigate the effects of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor, sildenafil citrate, on choroidal thickness using eye-tracked enhanced depth imaging spectral-domain optical coherence tomography. Methods: a prospective interventional study, 8 healthy subjects (4 men and 4 women) with no ocular history underwent tomography at baseline, 1 hour, 3 hours after ingestion 100 mg citrate. Choroidal measurements for both eyes were taken by 2 masked readers 1-hour, 3-hour time points. Statistical analysis was performed to compare each three intervals. Results: The mean age 35.9 years (range 30-46 years). Mean baseline 334 μm (±57 μm). increased 12.3% 375 (±68 μm) hour (P < 0.001). At ingestion, remained elevated 372 (±61 μm), 11.6% thicker than There significant difference in between 1-hour intervals = 0.719). Conclusion: Sildenafil citrate appears increase as measured ingestion. These findings may be relevance given that risk factor central serous chorioretinopathy several reports have suggested an association inhibitors this disorder.
