ABSTRACT
Purpose: To report a case of refractory giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC) treated by using topical tacrolimus 0.03% ointment. Methods: A 16-year-old white boy with history GPC was referred to our department for severe eye itching, tearing, photophobia, discharge, and blepharospasm. The patient had received previous treatments antihistamines, mast cell stabilizers, corticosteroid ointments, surgical resection-cryopexy that were ineffective. Results: Topical ointment (Protopic; 0.5 cm) applied into the lower fornix twice day. An improvement patient's symptoms observed during first 5 days therapy, resolved within 15 days. After 1 month continued treatment, there no evidence GPC. tapered next 2 months. Six months after findings, side effects reported. Conclusions: GPC, conventional appears be an effective alternative treatment.
