ABSTRACT
The accuracy of navigated bronchoscopy relies on a best possible correlation between the preoperative computed tomography images used for planning and actual tumor position during bronchoscopy. Change in lung structure procedure may reduce success rate. size changes breathing, which be predicted at least partly compensated by navigation system. We have studied effect itself, to see if how causes further distortions, might harder predict compensate.Using newly developed tracking sensors, we measured movement individual segments session pigs. bronchoscope was moved stepwise forward, ending wedge position, where it is often positioned when collecting peripheral biopsy specimens conventional bronchoscopy. The influence segment minimal while trachea, main bronchus, or lobe bronchus. However, displaced targets reduced natural respiratory motion.A placed displaces affects their behavior. As an image system guides operator towards dictated tomography, displacement found this study cause miss target. This part explanation limited rates reported literature
