ABSTRACT
Recognizing the possible beneficial effect of prebiotics in food, Food and Agriculture Organization United Nations (FAO) convened a Technical meeting to start work on evaluation functional health properties prebiotics. A group international experts agreed guidelines, recommended criteria, methodology for conducting systematic approach leading its safe use food. It was that full expert consultation be under auspices FAO. This provides governments, industry, consumers with scientific advice relation aspects general guidance assessment their nutritional or safety. These guidelines may also used by Member Countries Codex Alimentarius identify define what data need available accurately substantiate nutrition claims.
