ABSTRACT
Data about small bowel capsule endoscopy (SBCE) come from studies involving and highly selected populations. The study aim was to describe extent of use, indications, results, complications, practical issues SBCE in clinical practice a Northern Italian Region (Lombardia).Twenty-three out 29 invited centers fulfilled specific questionnaire.Between 2001 2008, 2921 procedures were performed both the number performing (from 5 29) 7.2 69.2 per month) increased steadily. main indications for were: obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB) (43.4%), unexplained anemia (23.9%), suspected Crohn's disease (7.8%) abdominal pain (5.3%). Thirty-two them eventually excreted naturally endoscopic surgical retrieval necessary (1%) (in two because obstruction).Over period 7 years use Lombardia steadily confirming, practice, high yield an acceptable safety profile.
