Types, availability, and perception of social support among parents of young children with cognitive delays in Vietnam

ABSTRACT
Parents of young children with disabilities experience increased parenting stress owing to the caregiving demands place on them and concern over how they will raise care for their in future. Support or understanding from others can be helpful relieving psychological physical strain that caregivers experience. The project examined types availability social support Vietnamese parents cognitive delays, perceived stress. Fourteen informal (spouse, wife's father, mother, husband's siblings, sons, daughters, other relatives, friends, neighbors, helpers) eight professional (teachers, therapists, doctors, private home helpers, agencies, babysitters, doctors community health clinics) were available. When level intellectual functioning among was lower, both mothers fathers reported less most teachers. For fathers, a larger network reduced amount experienced.
