ABSTRACT
Background: A diagnosis of cancer affects not only the patient but also his/her spouse/partner. In addition to facing a life-threatening illness, changes in role and financial threats can impact dyad. Objective: This dyadic study examined effects concerns pain on quality life (QOL) patients their partners. The partner relationship partners' coping style were explored for mediating couples' outcomes. Methods: Participants consisted 177 dyads with both sexes as partners committed, heterosexual relationships. Patients had mix diagnoses various phases treatment. Each participant completed 4 same instruments. Partners measures, symptom distress measures. Results: Pathway analysis, using structural equation modeling, quality, style, QOL Partners' affected own (0.16; P = .05). Pain significantly negative direct effect (−0.51; .05) patients' no partner's QOL. Financial (−0.13; (−0.36; mediated decrease from −0.51 −0.58, significant total (P Conclusions: lessened pain's effect. issue dyad members, was compromised. Implications Practice: Patients' may be by marital relationship.
