Evaluation of an Innovative Communication Technology in an Acute Care Setting

ABSTRACT
Wireless technology in healthcare has been associated with communication-related improvements workflow; however, there are barriers to adoption. The purpose of this study was assess perceptions and attitudes staff toward the use a wireless communication device (Vocera, Vocera Communications, Inc., San Jose, CA) compare patterns before after implementation. A pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design Theory Planned Behavior were used. Attitudes, subjective norms, perceived control explained 25% variation behavioral intent 45% time for key activities reduced by overall.
