How the DSM Is Used in Clinical Practice

Despite widespread use, how clinicians use the DSM in psychiatric practice is not well understood. Recognizing public and professional attitudes toward are integral to future development, assess a commonly held assumption such as that used primarily for coding, its clinical utility. A convenience sample of Psychiatric Times readers was surveyed DSM's practice. total 394 behavioral health care practitioners fully completed online survey. Results suggest DSM, beyond administrative billing communication with providers, teaching diagnoses trainees, and, importantly, an educational tool inform patients caregivers alike.
