ABSTRACT
Background: Although autologous fat injection (fat grafting) to the breast was performed widely throughout twentieth century, authors at their hospital have recently had repair damage suffered by a number of patients subjected this procedure. The are concerned that procedure is being incorrectly untrained and untutored individuals, especially in Japan. report several cases complications after Several related issues discussed. Methods: retrospectively reviewed 12 who received grafts required surgery and/or reconstruction presenting between 2001 2007. symptoms described grafting procedures were used analyzed. Results: All (mean age, 39.3 years) injections for augmentation mammaplasty cosmetic purposes. They presented with palpable indurations, three pain, one infection, abnormal discharge, lymphadenopathy. Four abnormalities on cancer screening. underwent mammography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging evaluate injected fats. Conclusions: Autologous not simple should be well-trained skilled surgeons. Patients informed it associated risk calcification, multiple cyst formation, screens will always detect abnormalities. also followed up over long-term analyses (e.g., echography, imaging) performed.
