ABSTRACT
Background: Breast cancer treatments involve tumorectomy or mastectomy. Over the past few decades, authors have been offering direct breast reconstruction with anatomical, gel-cohesive, extra-projection prostheses. This study aimed to demonstrate that directly prostheses in a subpectoral pocket is feasible and safe. Methods: From 2002 through 2008, 400 reconstructions were performed at single center. The prosthesis was covered by muscle its upper two-thirds using skin from mastectomy lower third. A prospectively maintained database reviewed. primary endpoint development of complication. Results: In all patients, surgery well tolerated. No systemic medically unfavorable events occurred immediate late postoperative period. Morbidities, which included infection, required implant removal four patients. Five patients had marginal ischemia envelope, two cases. Eight cases extrusion removal; nine hematoma significant capsule formation requiring capsulectomy 45 overall number complications resulted 71 (17.75 percent). Conclusions: preliminary demonstrates direct, extra-projection, anatomical good alternative. Because low rate elucidated, prostheses-based technique should be made available public.
