ABSTRACT
Transplant a liver from an HIV-positive mother to her HIV-negative child save the child's life.A unique case of living donor transplantation in South Africa. Two aspects this are ground-breaking. First, it involves donation by someone who is and second controlled transplant organ into recipient, with potential prevent infection recipient.Standard surgical procedure for at our centre was followed. HIV-prophylaxis administered preoperatively. Extensive, ultrasensitive HIV testing, over above standard diagnostic assays, undertaken investigate recipient serostatus ongoing. Both well, 1 year posttransplantation. seroconversion detected serological testing day 43 posttransplant. However, decline antibody titres approaching undetectable levels now being observed. No plasma, or cell-associated HIV-1 DNA has been any time-point since transplant. This potentially opens up new pool which might have clinical relevance countries where there high burden limited number deceased organs access transplantation. recipient's status equivocal present additional investigation regarding events profile ongoing.
