ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in population a city 70,000 inhabitants located Buenos Aires, Argentina.Based on hypothesis that RA is an underdiagnosed disease Argentina, capture-recapture method applied. A local registry patients Luján City taken as primary source; telephone survey specifically carried out secondary source information. Patients suspected having were referred hospital be examined by team 12 rheumatologists. Anamnesis and physical examination followed hand foot radiography erythrocyte sedimentation rate factor measurements.According American College Rheumatology criteria, 0.94% (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.86%-1.02%) found surveyed population; agreement with other studies, higher women when compared men (for female, 1.54% [95% CI, 1.40%-1.69%]; for male, 0.40% 0.32%-0.49%]).The representative sample from central region Argentina seems close 1%.
